Who we are
Gramfile is a software download directory at https://gramfile.com. We are the data controller for the information described in this policy.
Information we collect
We collect two kinds of information.
Non-personally identifiable information (NII) covers things that do not identify you on their own: browser type, operating system, IP address, the pages you browse, and which software you download. We collect this automatically whenever you use the site.
Personally identifiable information (PII) is anything you choose to give us, such as an email address when you subscribe to our newsletter. We do not collect PII without your knowledge, and we do not require it just to browse or download software.
How we use this information
- To run and improve the site: NII helps us see how visitors move through the site and interact with the software listings, which we use to fix problems and improve the download experience.
- To personalize your visit: we may use NII to remember preferences or suggest software based on what you have browsed.
- To support advertising: we work with third-party ad networks, including Google AdSense, to show ads on the site. These networks may collect NII across gramfile.com and other sites to serve ads that are more relevant to you.
Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display ads. AdSense uses cookies and similar technology to collect NII about your visits to gramfile.com and other sites, and uses that data to serve ads it judges relevant to you. Cookies
If you comment on the site, you can opt in to saving your name, email, and website in a cookie so you do not have to retype them next time. These cookies last one year.
Visiting the login page sets a temporary cookie that only checks whether your browser accepts cookies. It holds no personal data and disappears when you close the browser.
Logging in sets a few more cookies to keep you signed in and remember your screen preferences. Login cookies last two days, and screen-option cookies last a year; checking “Remember Me” extends your login to two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.
Editing or publishing an article sets one additional cookie holding the post ID of the article you were working on. It carries no personal data and expires after a day.
Comments
When you leave a comment, we collect what the comment form asks for, plus your IP address and browser user agent string, which we use for spam detection.
We keep comments and their metadata indefinitely, so we can recognize and auto-approve your follow-up comments instead of holding them for moderation.
We may send an anonymized hash of your email address to Gravatar to check whether you have an account there. Gravatar’s own privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once we approve your comment, your Gravatar profile picture becomes publicly visible next to it.
Media
Avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Anyone who downloads an image from the site can extract that data.
Embedded content from other websites
Some articles include embedded content, such as videos or images hosted elsewhere. That content behaves exactly as it would if you visited the source site directly: it can set its own cookies, embed its own trackers, and log your interaction with it, including if you are logged into that other site.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell or share your PII with third parties without your consent, except when the law requires it, when we are responding to legal process, or when it is necessary to protect the rights or safety of Gramfile, our users, or the public.
If you request a password reset, the reset email includes your IP address. Visitor comments also pass through an automated spam-detection service.
How long we keep your data
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely, for the reason described above. If you register an account, we store the profile information you provide for as long as the account exists. You can view, edit, or delete that information at any time from your profile, except your username, which cannot be changed; site administrators can also view and edit it.
Your rights over your data
If you have an account or have left comments on the site, you can request an export of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to erase it. We will honor erasure requests except where we are required to keep certain data for administrative, legal, or security reasons.
Data security
We take reasonable technical and organizational steps to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or loss. No website or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute protection.
Children’s privacy
Gramfile is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect PII from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time using the unsubscribe link included in every email we send.
