How to install an APK on Android
Sideloading takes about a minute and needs no root. Menu names differ slightly between brands.
- Pick a version. Open the app page and choose the latest APK or an older build from the version history. Each entry shows the file size and the minimum Android version.
- Download the file. Tap Download. The .apk saves to your Downloads folder, with no account or redirect pages.
- Allow installs from your browser. On Android 8 and later, search Settings for "Install unknown apps" and allow the browser or file manager you used. On Android 7 and earlier, switch on "Unknown sources" under Security.
- Open the file and tap Install. Find it in your notifications or the Files app. If Play Protect offers to scan the app, let it.

What is an APK file?
APK (Android Package) is the installer format every Android app uses, including apps from Google Play. Downloading one directly is called sideloading: you install the app yourself instead of through the Play Store. It works on any Android phone or tablet and does not need root.
Is it safe to install APKs from outside Google Play?
It is as safe as the source. Install files only from sites that publish the developer's unmodified build and verify it. Every APK here is scanned by multiple antivirus engines and its signature is checked against the original. No scan removes all risk, so keep Play Protect on and read the permissions an app asks for.
Can I download older versions of an app?
Yes. Each app page keeps a version history with file size and minimum Android version. Older builds help when an update removes a feature or your device cannot run the newest release. They can lack security fixes, and apps that need a server, such as messengers, may refuse to connect once a version is too old.
Will an APK from GramFile update automatically?
We do not push updates. Because the developer's original signature stays intact, Google Play can usually take over updates for apps it lists. For anything else, download the newer APK and install it over the old one. Your data normally stays in place.
Do I need to root my phone?
No. Installing an APK is a standard Android feature. You only allow your browser or file manager to install apps, a one-time step in settings.
